Toyota has chosen SEMA as the venue for unveiling its new 2009 Matrix, and gotten into the spirit of the show by showing off a complementary tuner variant as well.
Toyota has grand aspirations for the new Matrix, and set ambitious goals while developing the new car. The aim was to make the 5-door hatch more coupe-like in appearance, while increasing the utility that customers have come to expect in the Matrix.
For the 2009 model year, the Matrix will come in three grades; Standard represents the (aptly titled) base model, S, and XRS get more aggressive body packaging, larger wheels and tires, and appropriately upgraded bells and whistles.
The Matrix will offer two engine choices, 1.8- and 2.4-liter inline-fours with 132 and 158 horsepower respectively. Buyers will have their choice of a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic mated to either engine.
